What led you to a career in construction finance?

My undergraduate degree was in Civil Engineering which enabled me to work on some major construction projects in the Tristate area. After some time in construction, I opted to start my own company which led me down an entrepreneurial path where I discovered Finance and Operations. At Billd I am fortunate enough to combine all my years of experience into a single role.

What do you do at Billd?

I handle Financial Operations of the company; specifically focused on the cash in/outflows of the business and reducing risk.

What is your favorite part of your current role?

My current role allows me to work with our clients both at an individual level (servicing material purchase orders) and at an aggregate level (managing our portfolio of various subcontractors/suppliers).

What does your typical day look like?

Typical days include issuing payments, collecting maturities, analyzing our current portfolio, and measuring/minimizing risk.

How long have you worked at Billd?

Less than a year.

What peaked your interest with Billd before being hired?

The significant impact that Billd can have with such a simplistic and easily understood business model.

What’s something new that you’ve learned since being at Billd?

At Billd I’ve come to get a better understanding of how cash circulates around a construction site. Often, subcontractors face serious cash-crunch periods and I am happy that Billd can help fill the void – easing cashflow concerns for subcontractors so that they can focus on completing their work on-time and without any hiccups.

What’s your favorite part about working at Billd?

Culture. Billd is one of the best company cultures that I’ve experienced. Each individual at Billd is a team player, has a strong work ethic, and is truly focused on the most important aspect of the business – our customers.

Give us your 30 second Billd elevator pitch.

Subcontractors and suppliers can improve their cashflows by leveraging Billd’s construction-friendly material purchase terms. Property Owners and GCs also benefit knowing that their subcontractors can access project-critical supplies without any delays.

What’s one accomplishment you’re proud of since being at Billd?

Fielding inbound sales calls and not totally screwing up!

What do you think makes Billd special?

Most employees at Billd have worked in construction (in some form or fashion) and, as a result, we understand the realities of the construction industry. Our innate understanding of construction would be difficult to replicate at another company.

What’s one goal you hope to accomplish with Billd in the future?

Scaling our Operations to handle the inbound demand that we’re currently seeing and forecasting.

What’s your favorite Billd memory?

My first interview with the Billd team. I ended up leaving the interview with an incredible impression of the team which made me very eager to join and help grow the company.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute to your success and why?

Striving for new & interesting challenges which will force me to make, admit, and learn from my mistakes.
